Maker of the earth and heaven    

1) Maker of the earth and heaven,
Father, Son, and Holy Ghost,
who the day and night have given,
sun and moon and starry host;
your almighty hand sustains
earth and all that it contains.

2) Thank you God, for in your keeping
I have rested safely here;
you have guarded me while sleeping
from all danger, pain, and fear,
that the unrelenting foe
could not cause my overthrow.

3) Let the night of my transgression
with the darkness pass away;
Jesus, into your possession
I resign myself today;
in your wounds I find relief
from temptation, sin, and grief.

4) Grant that at the morning's breaking
I in spirit may arise;
so may I in joy awaking
greet you when you rend the skies.
When that judgment day appears,
may I greet it without fears.

5) Let my life and conversation
be directed by your Word;
by your help and preservation
let me live this day, O Lord.
Only when you are with me
can my life be wholly free.

6) Lord, your holy angels send me
to protect me from alarm;
from the wicked foe defend me
that his pow'r may do no harm
till your messengers of love
bring me to your home above.
